Follow these structured steps every week to ensure optimal forklift safety, performance, and OSHA compliance.
1. Visual & Structural Inspection
- Inspect forks, mast, overhead guard, and carriage for any visible wear, damage, or weld cracks.
- Ensure capacity plate is visible and legible.
- Inspect tires and wheels for pressure, tread, and wear issues under heavy-duty conditions.
2. Hydraulic System Evaluation
- Check hydraulic fluid levels and look for contamination or discoloration.
- Inspect hoses, cylinders, fittings for leaks or cracks.
- Test mast lift, tilt, and side-shift operations under no-load condition.
3. Diesel Engine Performance Check
- Inspect oil, coolant, and fuel levels.
- Check for leaks or unusual sounds during engine operation.
- Verify that air filters are clean and exhaust system is functioning properly.
4. Brake and Safety System Test
- Test service and parking brakes under 30-ton load simulation (if applicable).
- Ensure horn, lights, and backup alarm are functional.
- Check seat belts, mirrors, and fire extinguisher availability.
5. Electrical & Battery Check
- Test battery voltage, terminals, and mounting stability.
- Verify alternator output and wiring integrity.
- Ensure dashboard indicators and hour meter function correctly.
6. Weekly Documentation & Signoff
- Log all inspection findings and mark items that need attention.
- Submit data to Oxmaint dashboard or inspection logbook.
- Technician and supervisor must sign off with date and remarks.
