EP Equipment EP18-10A – Yearly Inspection Procedure
Detailed OSHA-compliant procedure to guide yearly inspections for electric forklift systems, safety, and performance certifications.
1. Documentation & Equipment Review
- Log total operating hours and maintenance records for year-end review.
- Verify technician training records and forklift certification requirements.
- Review previous inspections to identify unresolved issues and recurring faults.
- Assess operator-reported concerns across last 12 months for trends.
2. Battery & Electric Motor System Analysis
- Perform full load test with documentation of charge/discharge capacity.
- Inspect terminals, wiring, connectors, housing, and battery compartment integrity.
- Analyze electric motor load efficiency, noise levels, and thermal profile.
- Evaluate charging system performance including peak voltage consistency.
3. Structural & Mechanical Systems Inspection
- Inspect forks, mast, chains, and carriage for wear, alignment, and damage.
- Evaluate frame, overhead guard, and structural weld points for integrity.
- Lubricate critical points and assess mechanical movement fluidity.
- Measure brake, steering, and tire wear against manufacturer benchmarks.
4. Hydraulic & Fluid Systems
- Check hydraulic pump performance and pressure fluctuations under load.
- Inspect fluid levels, condition, and filtration system performance.
- Identify leaks or seal degradation within lift system and cooling circuits.
- Test water separation and contamination control for environmental compliance.
5. Safety & Certification Systems
- Test horns, alarms, lights, interlocks, and stop mechanisms.
- Evaluate seat belts, guard rails, emergency stops, and signage visibility.
- Verify OSHA 1910.178(q)(7) and (g) annual safety checklist compliance.
- Prepare documentation for safety certification and regulatory audits.
6. Performance Trends & Strategic Planning
- Assess energy consumption, component efficiency, and operator feedback.
- Document lifecycle planning recommendations for motor, battery, and brakes.
- Update Oxmaint software with inspection data and strategic maintenance scheduling.
- Generate summary report and deliver to fleet supervisor and warehouse ops manager.
