Use this OSHA-aligned procedure to complete your monthly forklift inspection for battery, motor, and safety systems.
Monthly System Assessment
- Visually inspect forklift frame, wheels, forks, and environment.
- Record monthly hours, recent service logs, and incident notes.
- Ensure operator documentation and certifications are up-to-date.
- Compile baseline performance and safety history for review.
Battery & Charger Evaluation
- Check battery capacity with voltage meter and discharge test.
- Inspect all connections, terminals, and charger output.
- Clean terminals and apply corrosion inhibitor as needed.
- Document charge cycle frequency and identify anomalies.
Electric Motor & Drive Testing
- Run forklift through lift, tilt, travel, and steer cycles under load.
- Listen for motor whine, vibration, or sluggish response.
- Evaluate energy draw and runtime vs. spec values.
- Review motor temperature and performance degradation trends.
Hydraulic & Brake System Check
- Check fluid levels, hose wear, and mast function.
- Lubricate pivot points and check for fluid leaks.
- Test parking brake and service brake holding strength.
- Inspect brake pads and components for wear.
Safety & Structural Inspection
- Test emergency stop, horn, and all indicator lights.
- Verify condition of seat belt, overhead guard, and backrest.
- Check frame, tires, and weld points for damage or fatigue.
- Inspect load plate readability and safety label placement.
Documentation & Fleet Optimization
- Record checklist completion, performance notes, and maintenance actions.
- Update digital records on Oxmaint fleet dashboard.
- Flag any trends in battery performance or component failure.
- Use results to optimize maintenance schedule and technician allocation.
