Pre-Operation Setup
- Perform walk-around inspection checking for visible damage, leaks, or hazards
- Gather inspection forms and necessary documentation for shift record-keeping
- Check that required PPE and safety devices are available and in place
Battery & Electrical Check
- Verify battery charge level and connect to charger if necessary
- Inspect battery terminals for corrosion, secure connections, and venting
- Test all dashboard indicators, lights, and horn functions
Hydraulic System Inspection
- Check hydraulic fluid level and look for visible leaks around hoses and cylinders
- Operate lift and tilt controls to confirm smooth performance without jerking
- Inspect mast and fork mechanisms for signs of damage or excessive wear
Operational Function Tests
- Start motor and listen for unusual noises during idle
- Test forward, reverse, and steering operations under light load conditions
- Verify brakes, including parking brake, function properly
Safety System Verification
- Check seat belt or restraint systems for proper engagement
- Ensure emergency stop and backup alarms function correctly
- Inspect mirrors, visibility aids, and operator controls for clarity and ease of use
Inspection Documentation & Reporting
- Complete the daily inspection log and note any deficiencies
- Report unsafe conditions to the supervisor immediately
- File inspection forms according to facility procedures
